Exercise with oxygen therapy, also commonly referred to as EWOT, is a therapeutic technique that is designed to push more concentrated oxygen into your body while you are exercising. As you inhale a concentrated amount of oxygen, more oxygen makes its way into your bloodstream at a time when your heart is working hard to pump blood. This essentially pushes more oxygen to structures all over the body, giving them more fuel for essential functions like tissue recovery. We take a deeper look at exercise with oxygen therapy in today’s blog.

Recover Faster With Exercise With Oxygen Therapy

Exercise with oxygen therapy is one of many therapeutic techniques we offer to clients at HyperCharge Clinic, and it is one of the more popular treatment techniques because it is completely natural. All you’re doing is taking in a more concentrated amount of oxygen while you go through a standard exercise routine. You reap the benefits of physical exercise, but your body benefits by boosting the amount of oxygen it can deliver to tissues through the bloodstream.

Some physical and psychological benefits associated with exercise with oxygen therapy include:

  • Boosted energy levels
  • Increased concentration
  • Improved mood
  • Decreased stress and anxiety
  • Headache relief
  • Improved endurance and athletic performance
  • Improved tissue recovery
  • Improved sleep

As you can see, exercise with oxygen therapy can help improve a number of health issues, so it can be the perfect option for almost all patients. If you’re dealing with stress or sleep problems, you’re chronically fatigued or dealing with tension headaches, or you have muscle aches or general soreness from athletic competition and want to help your body heal itself faster, exercise with oxygen therapy could be worth pursuing.

While individual experience will vary, most EWOT treatments can be conducted in as little as 15-30 minutes, and that period gets shorter once you’re acclimated to the nasal mask that delivers the concentrated oxygen. Either before or after you’re fitted with the breathing device, we’ll check vitals like your heart rate and blood pressure to ensure everything is within an advised range. From there, we’ll likely have you step up on a treadmill and begin a short workout, typically walking or jogging at a pace that elevates your heart rate to an ideal range. Depending on your level of fitness and your goals, you may exercise for anywhere from 5-15 minutes to push this oxygenated blood throughout your body to the tissues that need it most.

After exercise is complete, we’ll let you have a short cool down before asking you some questions about how you’re feeling. Most clients feel energized and ready to attack the day, but some don’t really notice the benefits of the therapy until they’ve undergone a couple of EWOT sessions. The most common improvements that clients mention are feeling more energized throughout the day and increased stamina during physical activity or athletic performance. Others simply state that they just “feel better” than they did prior to exercise with oxygen therapy. In the rare instance that you’re just not seeing enough benefits to justify the commitment, you can step away knowing that it was a non-invasive, non-addictive treatment with no ill side effects (the same can’t always be said about medication or surgery).
